Following an old Indigenous trail at the foot of the escarpment, Davenport is among Toronto’s oldest roads, in use long before the city existed. By the 1800s, orchards and gardens welcomed travellers on horseback. Toronto commuters have always been a thing.

Borrowed from an old English estate called Ossington Hall, the name arrived long before the street found its footing. By the early 1900s, the street bustled with butchers, barns, and beer halls. Neighbours complained about the smells, the noise, and the bad behaviour. Some things, apparently, don’t change.
